Frank Drake is a Pseudonym for an Entrepreneur and Systems Theorist who is heavily involved in Manufacturing Technology.
The original Sir Francis Drake is my hero as he led a venture which was backed by Queen Elizabeth the First of England to steal Gold from the Portugeuse treasure ships on the west coat of South America. The Queen sent along her lover to watch over her interests - but he attempted to lead a mutiny against Sir Francis - for which Sir Francis had him beheaded.
The venture was incredibly successful. So much so that the Golden Hind ( Sir Francis' flagship) had so much gold in her hold that they could not go back through the Straights of Magellen. As a result, Francis Drake had to circumnavigate the Globe to get back to England - thus becoming one of the first circumnavigations on record.
When he arrived back in England, he knew that Queen Elizabeth would want him beheaded for killing her lover. So he anchored off-shore and sent Queen Elizabeth a list of all the gold in his hold and explained that she could get her 20% cut in the venture provided she pardonned him for having her lover beheaded.
When she read the list of treasure on board the Golne Hind Queen Elizabeth is reported to have said "No Lover is Worth That Much". So she pardoned Sir Francis and tok her 20% cut and the rest is history.
